Awaken for the Awakening

Our church had the pleasure and privilege to have  Rev. John David (J.D.) Walt on May 6-7 of this year. The purpose of the weekend was to encourage our church to continue on its journey to read the Bible in a year as well as to explore how we, God’s children, can be more sensitive to the leading and teaching of the Holy Spirit.

JD raised the question: “ What if we are all asleep?”

He went on to inform us that the 2 pillars of Awakening to our spiritual growth as well as the Church’s growth is through the Word of God and the Spirit of God.  He spent the rest of Saturday sharing with us how we can grow into more Christian maturity with an alive and vibrant faith with the ultimate goal of helping others become more alive in Christ and open to the leading of the Holy Spirit.  Individuals on fire will set the Church on fire….Awakening for a Great Awakening!

One way to do that is to form small Bands of 4-5 people into a covenant group that are committed to that growth,  These Bands meet weekly, bi-weekly , or monthly to openly and honestly confess their struggles and progress, as well as where they are hearing the Holy Spirit calling them to action, what is holding them back, and what action can be taken to correct that.

For more information on how to form a Band, please go to NEWROOMBANDS.com   Sharing with others, being accountable, and being open to the Holy Spirit will wake us up for The Great Awakening!

What is the Great Awakening?
A great awakening is a divinely ordered, viral movement of the Holy Spirit bringing many people into saving faith in Jesus Christ and joining them together in disciplining communities, leading to dynamic redemptive transformation in all sectors of society.  The core doctrine of the church - that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave to save us, is only the first half of the gospel.  The second half is this:  Jesus lived, died, and rose from the dead and lives to deliver us from the power of sin and death and join us into the mission of His kingdom.  As described in J.D.'s February 22 Daily Text, "If John 3:16 captures the first half of the Gospel, 1 John 3:16 shows us the agenda of the second half of the Gospel."
