Agape Fellowship Ministry
(Older Adult Ministry)
The Agape Fellowship Ministry (Older Adult Ministry) at First United Methodist Church focuses on fulfilling our mission to grow disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of Peoria and the world through intentional ministries by, with and for older adults that enhance their lives spiritually, mentally, and physically.
The Apage Council meets once a month and includes representatives from Triple M, our four older adult Sunday School classes, and Caring Hearts Ministry.
Ministries to the church and community have become a major emphasis. We have participated in large conferences for other churches to help them establish their own older adult ministries and connect with United Methodists at various retirement homes by providing a monthly devotional gathering with speakers and refreshments.
Agape Fellowship Ministry serves our homebound senior members through Homebound In Service ministries. We have five Senior Prayer Power teams. Additionally, the Agape Fellowship Ministry cooks and delivers chicken dinners for homebound seniors in the areas surrounding our church on New Year’s Day.
We are involved with Irving School first graders, the Area Agency on Aging, the annual Peoria Taste of Faith and other community ministries as needs and opportunities arise.
We hold bi-monthly luncheons with speakers and occasional bus trips which may be one or serveral days. During the summer months, there are additional social activities such as picnics, boat trips and one-day retreats.
Triple M is an evening social group that meets the third Friday of every month for dinner, fellowship and a speaker. Dessert is served in homes of members after the program.
