March 3, 2009 Dear Registrant, I regret to inform you that we have had to cancel the LCI Annual Event in Peoria this coming April. In spite of our attempts to promote this event at Orlando in 2008 and through several email and hard copy mailings, to date we have only 26 persons registered. Yesterday, March 2, the LCI Executive Committee and senior staff at the General Board of Discipleship agreed to the cancellation of a conference we had every reason to be excited about. Tim Bias and his team had planned an outstanding event for us. Unfortunately, it seems the Peoria event is another victim of our troubled economy. Many local churches have had to trim back their budgets including slashing continuing education funds and laying off staff. A sense of financial uncertainty hangs over many others. In the early 1990’s LCI had to cancel it’s third event slated for San Diego, also due to low registration. We’ve had an unbroken string of successful events from that time to this. We’ve hit another pause, this year, but want you to know that plans for our 2010 LCI Annual Event at University United Methodist Church in San Antonio are well under way. Charles Anderson and his team have put together a dynamic conference with outstanding speakers and workshops to inspire, renew and challenge us. We hope by then the economy will be in better shape along with local church budgets. I thank you for your understanding.
